GCNS have units costs of £13 and £9 per wSUM higher than the sector average

GMC delivers on average 46 more wSUMS per FTE than the sector average of 368 in
2007/08. CC and GCNS deliver 60 and 54 wSUMs less than the sector average
respectively.
d) GMC derives its SUMs delivery principally from Construction, Art & Design, Food
Technology and Catering and from Extended Learning Support areas;
e) Special Programmes showed a marked increase between 2007 and 2008 principally as
a result of a reclassification of asylum seekers undertaking ESOL courses, to DPG 18
following SFC agreement.
2.8.2 From our review of the SUMs delivery across GMC, CC and GCNS for 2008/09 we note
the following points;
a) GMC is strong in Construction, Art and Design and Food Technology and Catering.
GCNS is strong in Engineering and Transport. CC is strong in Business and
Management and Computing;
b) There is scope to improve and adapt the curriculum post merger and there are very
few areas of overlap.
2.8.3 From our review in other areas we note the following:
a) GMC could improve early student retention rates, however has strong statistics with
reference to final student retention rates and successful progression compared to
sector averages;
