3.25 In some subject groupings there is relatively little duplication of provision across the
three colleges - a result of the fact that each college has specialisms dating from the pre-1992
era, when college provision was centrally planned by the Strathclyde regional authority.
However, in more recent years some overlaps in the curriculum offer across the three
colleges have emerged. For example, sports science is offered at two institutions (Nautical,
Metropolitan); computing is offered at Central and Metropolitan; art and design is offered at
both Central and Metropolitan; while business studies is offered by all three.
3.26 Table 3.2 below summarises how provision in a range of different curriculum areas is
distributed across the three colleges. Clearly, the table does not indicate duplication - as it
does not follow that simply because two colleges have some creative industries courses on
offer that this offer is the same in both colleges. Nonetheless, the table does indicate the
potential that exists for developing greater specialisms within each curriculum area when the
three colleges begin planning their offers in a more collaborative way.
