Appendix 14.13: Training for Merger Group
1. General Remit
To support managers and staf through the merger process by delivering a planned programme of staf
and organisation development initiatives for the three merging institutions.
2. Specii c Remit
To provide management, staf and team development as necessary at the various stages of the merger
and change process.
a. Preparing for merger
The primary focus of this activity is to promote understanding and acceptance of the benei ts of change
and to ensure that the staf are, as much as possible, committed to the change process. Key to this will be
dealing with staf concerns and open and honest communication (CFs). There is a need to prepare and
support managers to lead their staf through managing change, expectations and the change process.
b. Point of merger
The i rst phase of preparing for merger should l ow seamlessly into the second phase at the point of
merger. Once structures and roles become clear in the new institution, there will be a need for the
following job-specii c support:
Managing Expectations
Preparing for the new role
Specii c job-role needs
Career planning
Team building with new colleagues
·Sharing good practice
Curriculum and estates familiarisation
Embed the New College values, culture and corporate identity.
c. Post-merger
There will be ongoing needs for staf development and other staf support needs although these will
emerge through an evolving process. Ongoing embedding of the New College values, culture and
corporate identity.
3. Action Plan
There will be a Training for Merger action plan that will set out timescales and proposed interventions and
will serve as the group's working document. As such it will be subject to continual review and updating.
4. Relationships with other groups
Key to the success of the Training for Merger group will be the l ow of information between them and
