amongst staff and students.
Communication Facilitators have been
successfully used in a number of mergers, and
not just colleges. They help to support open, two
way communication. They are seen as 'honest
brokers' who access accurate information in
response to any questions and refer problems /
concerns to the correct source.

So what's happening and when is it happening?
Noted below are the key timelines from November 2009
through to February 2010. Consultation with trade unions
and the NUS will be ongoing throughout this period.

Merger Timeline
With merger developments picking up pace, an executive
group - the Merger Steering Group - has been set up.
It met for the first time on 4th November 2009 and will
meet weekly.
The core membership is:

Janet Okten
Richard Speight
Candy Munro, the Merger Project Co-ordinator will also
attend these meetings.
The remit of the Merger Steering Group is to:
• Determine the objectives and composition of the work
groups,
• Co-ordinate the work of the work groups and help
ensure that merger milestones are achieved,
• Co-ordinate stakeholder engagement,
• Ensure effective communications with internal
stakeholders,
• Consider dependencies / synergies between the
merger and New Campus Glasgow.
Regular updates on these meetings will be included in
each edition of Merger News.
