5.3.2 The College will have a Learner centred culture from inception, which will shape the
strategic framework. This means that the new college will:
• Capture and enhance the existing good practice and achieve recognition as a leading
College on Learner Engagement , nationally
• Develop and fully resource a Student representation model based on sabbatical officers and
actively promote participation and student representation on College boards and
committees
• Promote and provide engaging learning and teaching experiences that embed the principles
of A Curriculum for Excellence and thus promote opportunity for challenge in learning and
develop expert lifelong learners who are confident healthy individuals, responsible citizens
and effective contributors
• Engage with potential and existing students in all aspects and stages of their learning
experience from first enquiry to transition to education or employment
• Promote and encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning, owning their
learning experience by actively engaging learners in curriculum design and delivery
• Create an environment and culture where enthusiasm, curiosity and innovation are
supported and encouraged and where diversity and individuality are welcomed
• Actively seek feedback from learners on all aspects of their learning experience making full
use of new technologies.
5.3 Opportunities/Benefits of Merger
1. The merger of the three Colleges will provide opportunities to shape the future learning
experiences of students from a diverse and dynamic population
2. There will be the opportunity to create and resource an effective and empowered model of
student representation that best fits the needs and aspirations of further education
students and adds to the voice of College learners on a national level
3. Through the creation of the new college we can develop a learning environment that
promotes and encourages the vision and enthusiasm we wish from lifelong learners in
Scotland
4. Provide improved access and 'interlocking' of facilities and resources that enhance the
social and added value components of a learning experience across multiple campuses
for all learners
5. Harness good practice and experience of committed and dedicated staff and enhance the
liaison between learners and staff empowering both to achieve effective engagement and
autonomy
