Values - I would support these. They are i ne. Perhaps replace "partnership" with "partnership and
mutually benei cial collaboration".
7 Jan 7, 2010 05:16 PM Those set out are challenging, but demonstrate a commitment to a meaningful learning experience for
students and recognises the importance of the contribution of teaching staf in achieving this.
8 Jan 13, 2010 9:04 AM Appropriate as you would expect
9 Jan 13, 2010 01:04 PM I am hopeful that this will allow expansion in my own area as the team have been frustrated by staf
not being replaced and rooms being given up in Adelphi without consultation reducing the amount of
commercial work we can of er.
10 Jan 13, 2010 01:11 PM It is dii cult for me to see how the individual can be valued in such a large community Staf or learner.
11 Jan 13, 2010 01:29 PM Visions missions and values are all good and well but I prefer solid things such as childcare facilities and
car parks built out of concrete. I can't park my car on a mission statement.
12 Jan 13, 2010 01:37 PM How can New College Glasgow claim to be a world class instiution without childcare facilities.
The only nursery provision within the 3 existing colleges is being closed. instead of being expanded to
provide childcare for all New College Glasgow staf and students.
It penalises single parents by preventing them from retraining and returning to worthwhile
employment thereby reducing the load on the benei ts system.
New campus glasgow without a nursery is against the whole ethos of social inclusion.
13 Jan 13, 2010 02:22 PM It's what we all do and what is expected in these statements - so they are i ne.
14 Jan 13, 2010 02:29 PM Values and transparency :
Lack of communication has cased concern as has lack of consultation.
15 Jan 14, 2010 02:33 PM The "Mission" statement could well be applied to this college 20 years ago. There is a monumental
amount of work to do now before that goal is within sight.
The "Vision" is a positive and workable goal.
I am concerned the terms "equality, diversity, inclusiveness, integrity, honesty and transparency" will only
apply to an elete group.
16 Jan 15, 2010 12:37 PM Is it the case that the vision is 'to deliver world class learning…' and the mission is how we are going to
do that in a way that is recognised / measured as being world-class.
Having a new world class institution in the heart of the 'Dear Green Place' in conjunction with the
high proi le of SFC's 'Sustainability and Scotland's Colleges' and the 'Universities and Colleges Climate
Commitment for Scotland' it would seem appropriate to capture sustainability / environment in the
new College's values.
17 Jan 15, 2010 01:25 PM The information contained in this section is nothing new and is not dependent on a new building but
the ef orts by its staf .
18 Jan 15, 2010 04:31 PM The proposed vision ,mission and values already exist in the the three Colleges at present and we
cannot see how the creation of Super College will enhance or improve on what is already there.
19 Jan 17, 2010 08:41 PM Very dii cult to believe what is written in section on science and health. The statementappears to be
included to meet the national science and technology strategy perhaps just to be seen to be "ticking
a Box". In reality Glasgow metropolitan recently converted a well equipped laboratory into a general
purpose classroom and is about to further convert specialist science acommodation into classrooms
thereby reducing ability to deliver applied science subjects.
20 Jan 17, 2010 08:51 PM The mission refers to…." Glasgow, Scotland and International…" which in a marketing context is "some
ask" for any organisation. Clearly, there will be niches such as "maritime" which can embrace this width,
but other functions will require to remain local to West Central Scotland.
The vision refers to..." immersion learning…and real world briefs…". The i rst of these is a new concept
(?), while the second is stretching it a bit for the Further education sector in Glasgow.
Also, …" our staf will enjoy close partnerships with top Industry professionals. Their applied research…".
This would indicate a move into part of the Higher Education sector which, currently, only a few of the
staf are engaged in. It is unlikely to be economic unless Industry begins to invest directly etc.
