Success will be evidenced if we achieve what we have articulated in this consultation: 'The New College
will develop a united ethos and culture focussing on shared values and behaviours, encouraging
people to work together for the benei t of our learners.'
12 Jan 7, 2010 10:41 AM The new college will face an immense challenge in the harmonisation of staf terms and conditions
and the bringing together of a number of dif ering cultures. This will require, time, patience and strong
leadership. It is essential that the principal is a people-orientated person who can take the staf with
him/her. This is the area where I fear there is greatest risk of failure.
13 Jan 7, 2010 05:16 PM The governance and management issues are clearly explained and the timetable well set out.
It is reassuring that it is recognised that this will be a dii cult time for the staf and that good
communications and openness are essential for the success of the project.
"New College" sounds an excellent name at this stage and suggests a fresh begining for everyone.
However how long will it be before the "new" becomes redundant, or worse how long before "what's
new about it" applies. Road signs warning of "new rounabout ahead" in place for years after the event
can become an irritant. I would suggest simply "Glasgow College". To me this states that the college is
sited in Glasgow which it is, but also that it is the premier college in Glasgow. Additionally if any other
institutions merge with the college in coming years, the name would not need to change again since it
neither states an academic disipline or allegance to an area of the city.
14 Jan 11, 2010 9:37 AM I am very worried about the impact on stai ng and that the merger will be used to make staf
redundant especially in posts like Heads of School and Senior Lecturers. The merger will presumably
mean a restructuring of faculties etc, and this in the past has usually led to redundancies and/or staf
being forced to transfer to other posts which are not suitable or for which they are not really qualii ed.
Can it be guaranteed that there will be no compulsory redundancies and/or staf being forced to
reapply for their current jobs?
15 Jan 13, 2010 9:04 AM I have serious concerns about the arrangements for the transitional basis referred to in this section,
stating that there will be directors with responsibility for each of the colleges - how can this work?
surely the staf who are in post will stay until after the merge.
16 Jan 13, 2010 01:04 PM I suggest the new name for the college be Glasgow City College.
The proposed timetable for restructuring seems very tight but I would welcome information as soon as
possible for future planning of courses.
17 Jan 13, 2010 01:11 PM City of GLASGOW COLLEGE
Glasgow City College
18 Jan 13, 2010 01:29 PM Whats wrong with Glasgow College? Where is the international department going to be based? GCNS
has well over 1000 overseas students a year, primarily in Engineering and Maritime courses of study
which will be based at Thistle street. It would be idiotic to base the department on Cathedral Street.
Car park.

19 Jan 13, 2010 02:22 PM Everyone is concerned about job security. Three College merging into one is bound to have an impact
on the levels of support staf required.
20 Jan 13, 2010 02:29 PM Overlap in courses resulting in redundancy.
21 Jan 13, 2010 04:35 PM New College Glasgow
22 Jan 13, 2010 09:19 PM Name suggestions:
Lowlands College Glasgow
Scotia College Glagow or Glasgow Scotia College
Cathedral College Glasgow
Glasgow City College
