5.2.3 Recent HMIE reviews have acknowledged the participation and involvement of
Learners in the Life and work of the College and the commitment of the Colleges to
Enhance the Learning and Teaching experiences in their Strategic priorities
5.2.4 All three Colleges have active Student representation structures in place and work
hard to enhance the learning experience with activities and events across each of
the colleges to encourage affiliation, motivation and excellence in Learning and
Teaching
5.2.5 The Colleges are committed to robust and effective pre-entry guidance and support
and structured extended Induction. They acknowledge the importance of early
engagement and affiliation for positive retention and attainment.
5.2.6 All three Colleges strive to listen to the Learner voice through evaluation processes
and provide opportunities for all students to contribute to the shaping of the
organisation and the Learning environment through questionnaires, forums, focus
groups and representative structures and open access policies within support
services
5.2.7 Learner engagement is proactively encouraged through Learner representation on
relevant College committees and boards to ensure inclusion in strategic
development planning
5.2.8 All three College continually review and improve communication routes with
Learners and actively seek innovative engagement through technology and media
5.2.9 All Student Associations have affiliation to NUS and support electoral campaigns
election and financial support of executive officers on an annual basis
5.3 Learner Engagement Objectives
5.3.1 In planning and delivering its offer to 21
st
century learners, the new college will:
• Actively support and encourage learners to develop skills for active learning , stimulate
interest and engagement and hunger for lifelong learning
• Promote the development of learners as co creators who take responsibility for their own
learning
• Engage with students on various levels to gain feedback , perspectives and insights that
help the organisation improve and learn how to better serve their student population
ensuring that students are central to the College approach to quality and quality
enhancement
• Involve learners in decision making about their curriculum, teaching and learning and other
experiences that impact on them as learners
