1 Nov 26, 2009 12:06 PM Could there be a tighter rein on the consultants as it seems a very "Penny Wise Pound Foolish" approach;
to of er them extremely generous rates while cutting the cost of the children's Christmas presents at the
nursery from £7 to £2. Scrooge would have been so proud!!!!
2 Dec 3, 2009 09:30 PM Large scale projects such as this are prone to cost over-runs and failure to meet deadlines. many aspects
of this will be out-with the direct inl uence of the College management. Some contingency plans need
to be in place to ensure continuity of education of our students in the event of the new building not
been ready as planned.
3 Dec 15, 2009 11:18 AM Before the merger of the old GCFT and College of Building and Printing car parking for GCFT staf was
free. I, and others, asked for clarii cation as to whether, post-merger, free car parking would continue - I
was told that it would continue. It did not! I now pay £300 p.a. for the same parking space which was
free post-merger. I believe that car parking should be free for staf and that adequate consideration be
given to the provision of car parking facilities that are to an acceptable standard.

6 Dec 29, 2009 07:39 PM Section 11
As a former accountant and having worked in the construction industry I am somewhat less concerned
about the areas of i nance and estates. The reasons for this are quite simple everything will be bound
by legal and existing established guidelines that will have to be adhered to. However that will in itself
not negate the possibility of wrong decision making by the few, not always the right people or most
informed, who forget or refuse to consult the main players.
My own concerns are:
The reduction to 210,000 WSUMs activity. (i nance)
What commercial and international activity will be accommodated? (i nance)
How will shared facilities be organised given they are in the control of other colleges who will always
have i rst call on these resources thus compromising our own college timetabling. (estates)
Hot desks - no permanent individual workplace station
Can we make this work? Will it disrupt staf and as a consequence Student learning?
I think it will as we will have not provided our own facilities in the i rst place IE: Drama Theatre, Sports
Facilities etc.

7 Jan 7, 2010 10:41 AM The construction of the new College is also a challenge and there is a danger that the project is not
delivered on time or on budget. Specialist expertise and professional advice will no doubt manage this risk
but as a l agship project for the sector it must succeed. The cost of the new campus is out of all proportion
to the number of SUMs being delivered and I worry that it may not be seen as good value for money.
Suggestion for the name - City College, Glasgow.
8 Jan 7, 2010 05:16 PM The proposal for new builds is essential to the future success of the college. It has advantages on all
fronts - new technology integration, staf interaction, rationalisation of support services and good
learning environments.
The three merging colleges are to be congratulated on their business sucess to date and bodes good
for the future.
9 Jan 11, 2010 01:56 PM The consultants fees during this long and already exhaustive merger programme are enormous
considering not one stone has yet been turned, with the exception of the marine skills centre. One
hopes this will not be an exercise like the Scottish parliament which ran hugely over budget at the
expense of the taxpayer.
