CONTINUED OVERLEAF
47 Jan 20, 2010 10:11 AM Anniesland Colleges wishes to compliment the shadow Board for the work it has undertaken to date.
Anniesland College welcomes the intention of the Board to seek additional independent members. The
shadow Board has a signii cant volume of work as do the college Boards that are undertaking to merge.
It is very important that a new shadow Board is created to take forward the mission and vision of the
new college.
It is important that any name for the new college includes 'Glasgow'. The working title established may
be the title that will have widespread support.
48 Jan 21, 2010 Glasgow University College, Glasgow Imperial College or Glasgow Commonwealth College
49 Jan 21, 2010 Proposed new name: GLOBAL COLLEGE GLASGOW
Do not dismiss this at i rst glance - it has many advantages. It outlines the world wide and
comprehensive nature of the organisation and the curriculum. It supports the vision, mission and value
statements. Like CENTRAL COLLEGE GLASGOW it can be ef ectively marketed and branded. It dwarfs
all other names, try saying it against other college names, do this a few times. What are you starting to
realise.
It will invite students to look at widening their horizons and want to progress further to realise
their potential. The name covers the curriculum at a local (Glasgow), national (Scotland + UK) and
international (World Wide) level.
Currently when searching the web no direct match for 'GLOBAL COLLEGE GLASGOW' comes up,
however there are other domain names with GLOBAL COLLEGES and it is interesting to note that four
colleges are identii ed in the i rst screen listings (as a result of word association, Glasgow and College):
Metropolitan; Central; GCNS and Langside.

Q4. "It's such a waste of money?"
Answer: B****ing is about investing in your stability and success.
Q5. "People here will simply never accept it?"

The other thing we hear is that people like us don't understand people like you.
Well, I think that further and higher education, particularly these days, isn't so dif erent from the
business world.
"Brand" There I said it.
The critical path merger schedule seems to outline timelines and an overall view of what requires to
be done, however is somewhat lacking in detail. The new principal, Paul Little, should be in a position
to give a steer on more anticipated operational matters. With this appointment and the planned
expansion to the current shadow Board, the creation of a New Stai ng structure will be critical to
establishing the necessary Quality Culture and operational functions/curriculum areas.
Leadership (all levels of management and supervisory staf ) and harmonisation of Terms and Conditions
are essential, with continued ef ective consultation and good timely communications being key factors.
Success will be evidenced if we achieve what we have articulated in this consultation: 'The New College
will develop a united ethos and culture focussing on shared values and behaviours, encouraging
people to work together for the benei t of our learners.'
50 Arrangements for transition to the merged college are satisfactory.
We would encourage the inclusion of new people in the new governance structures as well as drawing
on existing expertise.
