5. LEARNER ENGAGEMENT
The merged college will have a renewed focus on learner engagement which takes cognizance of
our diverse learner profile with respect to socio-economic background, age, gender and individual
goals and aspirations. Engagement of all of our student body must be holistic to the organization
with all staff playing their part in providing the best possible inclusive learning and learning related
services. Opportunities for support and for early interventions will be planned and delivered and
multiple appropriate communication channels provided to ensure that communication is facilitated,
feedback is sought and evaluated and results in quality enhancement. Comprehensive provision
for student representation at all levels of college corporate life will ensured and the Student body
will be encouraged to adopt a model structure for an active student representative body to ensure
that the learner voice is heard at all key levels of the organization.
Our student Presidents and Student Engagement staff have already benefitted from joint meetings
and from dialogues with the NUS and with the College Executives. They are actively involved in
the steps which will lead to the merged college's Learner Engagement Strategy.
5.1 Defining Learner Engagement
Student or Learner engagement is of high strategic importance and priority within the government
planning for education and for Colleges as they move forward in the 21
st
century. Engagement of
learners is described in two main elements :
• Engagement in the life and work of the College
• Engagement in enhancing learning, as co creators of learning
5.2 Summary of Current Activity
5.2.1 Learner Engagement plays a vital role across all three Colleges and there is clear
commitment to the engagement of learners in the life and work of the College and in
their individual learning, recognising the importance of learners as co-creators of the
Learning experience
5.2.2 Each organisation continues to develop their Learner Engagement Strategies in line
with HMIE Quality framework .embedding a learner centred culture
