5.4 Challenges and Risks
1. The colleges will have to ensure that the breadth and depth if learner engagement is
maintained throughout the merger process
2. Develop a Student representation model and structure that encompasses best practice that
is effective, inclusive and relevant to all learners
3. Communicating and raising awareness among students of merger and associated
implications to processes which may directly affect information, advice and funding
4. Ensuring involvement and participation of learners from an early stage to gather views on
proposed changes to structure, policies, procedures etc
5. Integrating communication media and technology to provide parity of services and
information across campuses
6. Underestimation of costs to support objectives and aspirations
5.5 Learner Engagement Strategy
The development of a Learner Engagement Strategy is underway and involves key staff from
across the partner colleges and significantly is informed by the student population. The joint
student Executives have already elected to meet on a weekly basis, have the support of NUS
officers and are clearly mapping out their own objectives for enhanced engagement,
representation, presence and facilities within the new college. The diagram below represents the
key strands of the college's draft Learner Engagement Strategy:
