At the last merger Glasgow Metropolitan College spent £350,000 to market the new college and it
would be a totally unnecessary expense to repeat this exercise (which at today's prices would be clearly
considerably more and probably in excess of half a million pounds) to once again re-brand the merged
college especially when such funds could and should be put to more practical use. Thus, the name for
the new college should continue to follow the course of action adopted for other aspects of the merger
process using the host model (as dei ned in the Road Map) and remain Glasgow Metropolitan College.
8 Jan 7, 2010 10:41AM The merger document does not spell out how the New College will interact with the other Glasgow
colleges, particularly Stow College. It is therefore a partial merger and not as strategic as it should be. If
the new College does not build positive relationships with the other Glasgow colleges, it could fail.
It also has little reference to its potential relationship with Glasgow's schools and universities.
These areas need to be thought through - with all eyes on the end result, this merger cannot af ord to fail.
I wish you well with the challenge!
9 Jan 7, 2010 05:16 PM I support the proposed merger and wish all involved well.
10 Jan 11, 2010 9:19 AM There was no specii c industrial partner mentioned in Section 12,where is the tie in to local industry?
We have a local shipping company willing to sponsor an annual prize for an engineering project for the
past four years yet no mention has been made of them.
11 Jan 11, 2010 01:56 PM In 1996 when there were troubles within the merchant Fleet, GCNS was diversii ed to include the
Community and saw the development of childcare and other care courses. At one point 28% of the total
college sums were being made up by the school of community care. Now that the l eet is riding high again
but with a world wide recession, I would urge that all areas of the curriculum are scrutinised not just for the
short term gain but to look into the future and see what the needs are especially for our community.
Transport is a concern for some students, also staf especially if they are delivering courses on outreach
programmes which require transportation of equipment. car parking and charges are also a concern.
12 Jan 13, 2010 9:04 AM I feel that the staf have not been consulted in any depth and fear for the future. I do not have any faith
in having a secure future and am very upset at the lack of support being of ered to staf .
13 Jan 13, 2010 01:11 PM Car parking looks like a problem, if we are working on outreach classes and need transport.
Staf appreciate l exability and would be encouraged by this.
No change to the terms and conditions that we in the GCNS already have.
No top heavy management systems….
14 Jan 13, 2010 01:25 PM How can you call it a world class facility without childcare facilities?
15 Jan 13, 2010 01:29 PM Can we have a car park please?
16 Jan 13, 2010 01:37 PM I suggest the new college should be named:
Glasgow City College
17 Jan 13, 2010 02:22 PM I believe the College should be named GLASGOW COLLEGE.
18 Jan 13, 2010 04:35 PM Will the new halls of residence not raise security issues for International Students?
It feels like a done deal but I enjoy my job and intend to work hard at making the merger a success.
19 Jan 13, 2010 09:19 PM I applied for and accepted l exible working in 2004. Will this contract still be honoured?
20 Jan 13, 2010 010:16 PM Thistle Nursery has been opened since 1993 and is sadly due for closure on 1st July (not extended to
31st July) due to parents demand.
