Hawayo Takata
REIKI MASTER (1900 - 1980)
Hawayo Takata was a second-generation
Master in the Usui Reiki lineage
and instrumental in helping spread Reiki to
the Western world. She worked constantly
to support herself and her children. The
effects of this took its toll, and Takata
developed severe abdominal pains, a lung
condition, and eventually had a nervous
breakdown. She attended the clinic of Dr.
Hayashi in Japan, one of the founders in the
Usui Reiki lineage. There she received Reiki
treatments twice a day, and after four months
Mrs Takata was completely healed. She
began studying under Dr. Hayashi and earned
the rank of Reiki Master. Takata established a
Reiki clinic in Hawaii and dedicated the rest of
her life teaching Reiki to others.
