Margaret Calvert
GRAPHIC DESIGNER (1936 - present)
Born South African and raised British,
Margaret Calvert is a graphic designer and
typographer. Many recognize her for her
collaboration with Jock Kinneir in which they
designed road signs to be spread throughout
the United Kingdom. Margaret Calvert has
worked with the likes of Scotrail, airports
authority, motorways and roads. Between
1961 and 2001, she served as a teacher at
the Royal College of Art.
Nanna Ditzel
FURNITURE DESIGNER (1923 - 2005)
Nanna Ditzel is a furniture designer and was a
leading figure in the 1990's in the Danish
design. She was born in Copenhagen in
Denmark in 1923. She would work with
materials such as fiberglass, wickerwork,
foam rubber, cabinets, jewellery, tableware
and textiles. Her most recognized piece is
1959 Hanging Chair, nicknamed the "Egg
Chair". The Scandinavian Furniture Fair
nicknamed Ditzel "First Lady of Danish
Furniture Design", her work has been
exhibited around the globe. A lifelong artist
fund was awarded to Ditzel in 1998 from the
Danish Ministry of Culture. She was also
elected Honourable Royal Designer by the
Society of Arts in London in 1996.
