Gwynne Shotwell
ENGINEER (1963 - present)
Gwynne Shotwell graduated from
Northwestern University with a BA and MA in
Mechanical Engineering and Applied
Mathematics and originally planned to work in
the automotive industry. Wanting a more
hands-on roll, she began technical work on
military space research and development
contracts for The Aerospace Corporation,
where she remained for ten years. She then
spent a few years working as space systems
director at Microcosm Inc. In 2002 she
became the 11th employee of SpaceX, the
company founded by Elon Musk, of which
Shotwell is now the president and COO. In
2020 she was listed by Forbes as the 49th
most powerful woman in the world and was
included in Time magazine's 100 Most
Powerful People of the year.
Kimberly Bryant
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (1967 - present)
Kimerly Bryant is the Founder and Executive
Director of Black Girls CODE, a non-profit
organisation that helps 7-17 year old girls of
colour get involved in the fields of technology
and computer science. She has helped the
company grow from a local organisation to an
international company. It currently has
reached over 3000 students. In 2013 she
made business insider's list of "The 25 Most
Influential African-Americans in Technology
and a year later she was invited to the White
House as Champion of Change. In 2014,
Bryant received an American Ingenuity Award
in Social Progress from the Smithsonian along
with being given the Inaugural Women Who
Rule Award in Technology via Politico.
