Anna Schwartz
ECONOMIST (1915 - 2012)
Anna Schwartz was an American
economist who was best known for co-writing
"A Monetary History of the United States,
1967-1960" which is said to be the most
influential monetary economics book written
since the Second World War. This text
moulded the way modern
governments manage their economic activity.
Schwartz's male co-writer later gained
the Nobel Prize for the book and failed to
recognise her insightful contributions. She
continued to work within economic research
for the rest of her life advising on policy and
regulation. A year after her death Schwartz
was inducted into the National Women's Hall
of Fame in 2013.
Harriet Martineau
SOCIOLOGIST / WRITER (1802 - 1876)
Harriet Martineau was an English writer
and social theorist who is best known for
being the first female sociologist and an
author of books surrounding the theme of
taxation and political theory. She also wrote
many books and essays from a sociological,
holistic, religious, domestic and
feminine perspective, translated works by
Auguste Comte, and earned enough to
support herself by writing, a rare feat for
a woman of her period. She argued for a
more opportunity for women to access a wellrounded
education. long believing that
women were just as capable and intelligent as
men.
