Telephone Bomb Threat
Action
If an employee is involved in an incident of this nature, he/ she should:
• Keep calm.
• Note, as closely as possible, the phraseology of the caller's threat, background noises
and voice inflections.
• Take notes
• Notify management immediately the caller hangs up.
• Fill in the bomb threat checklist.
• Dial 1471 (if that facility operates).
• Follow instructions from management/ the Emergency Services regarding the safest
course of action.
Senior Management should:
• Notify Police and/ or Fire Brigade.
• Decide on safest course of action in consultation with Emergency Services
o if call is to be taken seriously, this may be an initiation of evacuation or search
plans, according to the timescale and location indicated by caller.
• The evacuation point should be a safe distance from the building.
• There should be designated places of safety within the building if the advice received
is to stay in the building.
• Notify third parties as necessary.
Initial Response - Home Office advice as follows for other types of 'bomb'
incident:
• The Delivered Bomb/ Incendiary Devices
o Leave It alone
o Clear and secure the immediate area
o Call the police
• Bomb on the premises
o Call the police
o React to the threat call
o Evacuate to a place of safety (including visitors)
o Secure the site against entry until the police have allowed access again
• Bombs outside the building
o Call the police
o React to the threat call
o Evacuate to a place of safety (which may be an 'internal bomb shelter', or an
external site)
