2.4 Emergency Categorisation
2.4.1 It is not possible to prescribe action for every type of disruption. Examples of
disruption include the loss of staff, the breakdown of the telephone network, an IT
system failure or a power outage in an office/classroom or a serious flood. This plan
provides a framework including the establishment of an Emergency Response Team
and nominated individuals in each service area.
2.4.2 Response objectives are:
• Life safety
• Asset protection
• Business protection
• Environmental protection
2.4.3 Incident Level Categorisation
(a) The type and level of response to an emergency will depend on the number of
people affected and the scale and duration of the disruption. A scale of one to
three will be used to categorise the incident and the response required:
