1.6 Scope of the Plan
1.6.1 The College Business Continuity Plan relates to all College locations and to all
functions and services provided by the College. The plan guides preparedness,
response, and recovery. The plan will be activated when an occurrence is
considered likely to impact significantly on the business of the organisation.
1.6.2 Examples of events likely to fall into this category include:
• Fire, flood, gas leak, preventing access to any College building
• Interruption of a business-critical system for a significant period due to failure
of, for example, ICT, electricity, or gas.
• A health and safety incident affecting staff, students, and/or the local
community and/or environment, for example a 'flu pandemic, coronavirus,
COVID-19, suspected or actual outbreak of Ebola, release of toxic fumes etc.
• An externally occurring incident such as: severe weather, major security alert,
major incident in the City Centre area, significant civil disturbance, prolonged
industrial action.
1.7 Evenings and Saturday Mornings/Duty Manager
1.7.1 The College is regularly open outwith normal office hours, for evening and
Saturday morning classes at City and Riverside campus locations. Evening classes
are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through the session.
There is a Duty Manager available when these classes are scheduled.
In the event of an emergency at these times, the Duty Manager should contact
appropriate Estates and Facilities staff at the location of the emergency, and if
necessary, contact Estates and Facilities managers on call. If necessary the Vice
Principal Corporate Services, failing which, the Duty Manager, will contact the
Principal, and assess the level of incident as below. (See 1.8, and 2.2.4 below).
