Incident Management: Tasks and Responsibilities
ELT/SMT
The Business Continuity Team comprising all or part of ELT/SMT should take
responsibility for the following tasks and delegate as required, which includes early
Business Recovery measures:
Strategic Management
Receive report on the incident from the site Emergency Response Team(s)
Decide whether to activate site Business Recovery Plans
Consult with Curriculum Heads as to the exact recovery strategy to be
implemented by each site (see Business Recovery Plans for site recovery
strategies)
Support the Site Emergency Response Teams in decisions affecting the
recovery of the site
Consider which key stakeholders will be impacted
Liaise on media handling and provide a lead on communications strategy
Receive damage assessment reports and act accordingly
Consider the impact on college activities and objectives
Re assess objectives given resources and capabilities
Ensure management and staff are kept fully informed and up to date with
progress
Receive progress report on recovery activities
In the event of casualties, set up a relative's area with staff and other support
(emergency services, counselling, College staff, refreshments)
Review and adjust recovery strategy as necessary
Determine if external legal advice is required
Media Management (see Media Golden Rules Below)
Develop a Risk Register - identify possible consequences, impacts and
likelihoods
Contact contracted public relations firm (Halogen as at December 2018)
Set up channels for communicating with media, staff, stakeholders, and
ensure these are known and understood by staff responsible
Ensure staff are aware of channels to refer media enquiries
Consider social media strategy
Ensure all passwords are readily available for social media platforms, web
content management etc.
Inform media about channels for information
Manage media interest
Consult with stakeholders' press offices: Government/Emergency
Services/Local Authority etc.
Maintain communications log
