7.6 ICT Strategy
7.6.1 Vision
"To ensure that teaching, learning
and College business processes are
technology rich, ei cient, ef ective
and integrated."
What is essential is a holistic, integrated
approach for both corporate (active
and passive) systems and learning
technologies - to ensure ef ective
Information Service Delivery. A key
component will be the integration of
various existing business applications
through an appropriate and
comprehensive 'ICT integration
project plan'.
All technical developments must be
underpinned by a robust, scalable
infrastructure and a well motivated and
appropriately skilled staf .
The merged College will build on the
strengths of the existing library and
learning resources services, combining
access to our specialist resources and
the expertise of our staf to support
our learners more ef ectively and to
develop innovative virtual and physical
learning spaces. In addition to of ering
the established services, the area will
be a focus for expertise and guidance
on all aspects of institutional asset and
license management and information
governance.
7.6.2 Objectives
To ensure that technology is fully
exploited in order to:
Enhance the student experience;
Introduce business process ei ciency;
Provide an integrated standards
based, college-wide Information
Service: information to the point of
need at the time of need for all users,
irrespective of their geographical
location.
• •
•
•
To provide dynamic information
and library services which meet the
diverse needs of the merged college
community;
To develop innovative virtual and
physical learning spaces for the
new campus;
To support staf and students in
their use of technology to meet
the merged college's aims.
7.6.3 The Challenge
Few doubt the scale and complexity of
the technology related challenges faced
by organisations seeking to be successful
in the 21st century. During this, our
planning stage, we appreciate the need
to look at a staged approach to the ICT
challenge. Not only do we have to bring
three college networks together and
provide the services currently available
as distinct services in an integrated and
meaningful manner to all users, we also
have the added complexity of the parallel
preparation required for the New Campus
Glasgow project and the delivery of an
integrated modern technology rich New
Build College.
Existing library services will be retained in
all College campuses up until the move
to the new build. Systems, services and
policies will be harmonised at the point
of merger, allowing learners and staf
to move seamlessly between all library
locations. This will signii cantly ease the
transition to the new campus but has
clear dependencies on the achievement
of an integrated network and associated
account creation. The libraries already
operate a shared library management
system, simplifying the integration of
lending and cataloguing operations
although work will be required to
harmonise policies.
