7.4 Communication Strategy

the context of Glasgow & Scotland;
Business as usual but even better
- continuity, seamless transition;
Building on success and high standards
- highlighting the track record of the
three colleges' successful students;
The breadth and depth of links and
partnerships of the merged College;
Signii cant investment planned for the
New Campus Glasgow project;
Key development targets for New
Campus Glasgow;
Lack of disruption for students;
Enhanced leaning experience across
the curriculum;
International context.
7.4.6 Communication Channels
Communication
Facilitators / Champions
Successfully deployed in previous
mergers, the facilitators / champions are
a critical communication conduit and
trusted two way source of information.
Information requests from staf and
students will be channelled through the
facilitators. The facilitators / champions
provide a means of one-to-one verbal
communication, which can often be
more ef ective and reassuring than
written forms of communication. Each
college will have staf and student
Communication Facilitators who will all
receive training in respect of the role.
All staf conference - a key milestone
within the communications plan is
the all staf conference planned for
19 April 2010.
Merger News - the merger newsletter
published monthly electronically with
hard copy as required.

New College Glasgow Website - The
site will include all external newsletters,
latest news and press releases, a link
to the New Campus Glasgow website,
key people proi les and minutes from
working group meetings.
Digital Marketing - The digital
environment / software tools of er
opportunities to be creative and
innovative. Interactive newsletter
software could be utilised to make
communications more interactive
and multi - dimensional: for example,
a letter sent out by the chair of the
Shadow Board, might have taken the
form of a i lmed interview within a four
page interactive brochure.
Team Briei ngs - We will ensure that
there are regular opportunities for two
way communication / discussion across
all staf levels. All staf should feel that
they can share any issues they have
with regards to merger.
Public Relations - The Communication
Strategy will be underpinned by a PR
strategy; all newsworthy items will
be released on a regular basis to key
media. Centralised media lists will be
created. A Press Release Template will
be designed to support this process
along with Editors' Notes.
Posters & Fliers - To get merger
messages across visually and
continually, posters and l iers will
be designed and copy written for
display within all three colleges.
Student Union - We will work with
the Student Union Presidents of
each college in respect of all the
aforementioned activities to render
them more meaningful and credible
to the student population. Media
technology will be optimised. Weekly
meetings are in place and a structure
has been developed for a shadow
student union.

7.4.7 Evaluation
We need to regularly evaluate merger
communication activities. It is essential to
know if we are getting the key messages
across or not.
Key methods should include:
Press Clippings - local and national;
Google Analytics - this will form
an integral part of the website
development;
Survey Monkey - will be used where
appropriate;
Focus Groups and
one to one sessions;
Perception Study - Undertaking a
study of key opinion formers (local
and national) such as: local council,
MSPs/MPs, head teachers, other
Glasgow colleges, other educational
partners (e.g. university partners),local
businesses, Glasgow Chamber of
Commerce, SFC, to i nd out what
opinion currently is of the future
College and what it might bring
both locally and nationally, and
even internationally.
