SECTION 7: Strategies
7.1 Learning and Teaching Strategy
7.1 Learning and
Teaching Strategy
Learning and Teaching is at the very
heart of what the college does. We are
excited about learning and teaching and
we want our students to enjoy learning
for its own sake as well as seeing it as a
means to gain or enhance employment.
Our learning environments of er wellequipped classroom,
specialist, 'real-life'
learning workshops and innovative
learning spaces but we recognise that
merger allows us greater scope to
focus on innovation in learning. We
recognise that we have a tremendous
resource in our practical, vocationallybased curriculum
with its opportunities
for hands-on, practical activities,
team-working and problem-solving.
Bringing together our diverse subjects
will energise teams and unleash new
opportunities for inter-disciplinary course
and project design and for sharing of
dif erent approaches to pedagogy.
In doing this we will build on the
development work we have already done
individually, with to explore strategies,
to build motivation and coni dence
in learners, as well as investing in staf
development in innovative delivery
methodologies and resources. We will
ensure that our staf further extend
their skills though stimulating CPD from
induction for new recruits, through
PDA and TQFE accreditation to postqualii
cation professional development
awards, action-based research projects
and post-graduate courses in pedagogy,
classroom and college management
strategies.
Our strategies for creating stimulating,
student-led learning will place students
at the heart of course design and
programme delivery seeking ways to
recognise the individual's existing talents
and resources as 'co-creators' of learning.
We want to aspire and inspire. We are
driven not only by a passion for learning,
enthusiasm for creativity, innovation
and intellectual enquiry, but also by our
commitment to quality and continuous
improvement. We will evaluate the
impact of our learning strategies through
direct student feedback and through
monitoring retention and performance
PIs and benchmarking these against UK
and international benchmarks.
Our key deliverables will be:
Implementing a visionary Learning &
Teaching Strategy which seeks out and
builds on the best practices identii ed
in Scotland and beyond;
Embedding motivational, student
focussed strategies within all subject
disciplines;
