SECTION 7: Strategies
7.2 Learner Engagement Strategy
Our merged College will result in a
diverse learning community with 17%
of our learners from black or minority
ethnic backgrounds and around 2 in
5 from the most deprived postcodes.
We will embed best practice and seek
always to exceed compliance;
We will engage our students in a
holistic way with all staf playing their
part in providing the best possible
inclusive learning and learning related
services. Opportunities for support
and for early interventions will be
planned and delivered using a variety
of communication channels to ensure
that feedback is sought and evaluated
and results in quality enhancement.
Comprehensive provision for student
representation at all levels of college
corporate life will be ensured and the
students will be encouraged to adopt
a model structure for an active student
representative association to ensure
that the student voice is heard at
all key levels of the organisation;
Our current student Presidents
and Student Engagement staf
have already benei ted from joint
meetings and from dialogues with
the NUS and with the College
Executives. They are actively
involved in the steps which
will lead to the merged college's
Learner Engagement Strategy;
•
•
•
Student engagement is of high
strategic importance and has priority
within the government planning for
education and for colleges as they
move forward in the 21st century.
Engagement of students is described
in two main elements:
Engagement in the life and work
of the College;
Engagement in enhancing learning,
as co-creators of learning ;
•
•
•
The development of a Learner
Engagement Strategy is underway
and involves key staf from across the
partner colleges and signii cantly is
informed by the student population.
The joint student Executives have
formed a Shadow Students' Union and
have the support of National Union of
Students (NUS) oi cers to clearly map
out their own objectives for enhanced
engagement, representation, presence
and facilities within the new college.
The diagram below represents the key
strands of the College's draft Student
Engagement Strategy.
