"I am honoured to add my support to the proposed merger of
Glasgow Metropolitan College, Central College Glasgow and

the best possible environment to learn can only be of great benei t
to them, and the new campus will certainly provide that platform.
It is vital that Glasgow maintains a highly qualii ed workforce and
the new college will greatly assist in making this possible."

6.5 Impact of not proceeding with Merger
This document highlights a range of academic and socio/economic
benei ts which l ow from the proposed merger. If the merger were
not approved then the likelihood of these benei ts being delivered
would be seriously compromised.
In particular the risk to the future of New Campus Glasgow, and
the signii cant investment in the new estate is huge if the merger
were not to be approved. The very important contribution that the
new estate would make to the economic regeneration of Glasgow
would not be realised.
We stated in the consultation document that we could not, as
separate colleges, achieve a range of key objectives linked to the
development of specialist facilities, economic regeneration and the
quality of teaching and learning.
The following are key areas of development for the new College
which would be compromised if the merger did not proceed.
Building upon the unique strengths of our current colleges
by creating high quality national and international centres of
excellence with specialist facilities covering such areas as the
creative industries, maritime studies, computing and internet
technologies and construction;
Developing new and l exible approaches to curriculum and
learning delivery capable of meeting both the short term skill
needs of the economy and longer term socio-demographic
demands;
Demonstrating belief in the equal value of vocational, academic
and work-based curricula by developing comprehensive access
routes for participation, achievement and progression;
Providing direct support for Scotland's key economic sectors:
energy; i nancial and business services; food and drink; life
sciences; maritime; tourism and creative industries;
By of ering more choices more chances through collaboration
with schools, civic support agencies, universities and other
colleges and through ef ective and meaningful partnerships
with employers and industry groups;
Supporting the development of a more dynamic, entrepreneurial
and internationally competitive Scotland with high levels of
skill, employability, innovation, enterprise, productivity and
competitiveness;
Developing work ready specialisms, responsive to local and
national training priorities, with attractive, l exible, modern
and technology saturated facilities.
