This has been a very unique period we can evidence increased use of MyCity , Moodle , Turnitin and
SOLAR and ClickView along with wholesale adoption of Zoom for webinar delivery.
We have worked on several improvements to data collection over the year and we ran a number of
external surveys from Jisc for learners, lecturers and support staff. Overall and in these unique
circumstances we have seen most courses redesigned for blended delivery with very high staff
levels of engagement in webinar training. This means that most courses now have high levels of
digital coverage - this a combination of emergency response materials from block 3 session 19/20
and materials developed in a more planned way for blocks 1 and 2 session 20/21 .
Please note following numbered in RAG notes
1. While all courses have 100% induction was secured on 18/19, we worked this year to improve the
quality of the on-line induction available, this is partnership between student services and IT and
learning technology. We created an on-line induction course available to all students before they
physically attended the college - on a new moodle platform called OpenLearn.
2. All mandatory units now on-line content in some cases the content is simply word and powerpoint
files. While we have achieved the target the focus is now on improving the quality of the materials
available to all learners. We have rolled out a programme focused on learning design along with a
College Learning Standard this year to improve the quality of the learning experience.
3. We continue to see increased use of Turnitin and SQA Solar and other forms of on-line assessment -
colleagues are re-designing programmes to make on-line assessment accessible to learners. This
needs in some cases to be negotiated carefully with the relevant awarding bodies further discussion
is needed to make sure that the full scope of potential of digital assessment is explored.
4. In a year of enforced blended learning we switched successfully from and emergency response to a
planned blended learning approach. We maintained staff engagement in a number of innovative
areas particularly through an extensive webinar support programme. All courses have now
embraced Zoom as a substitute for many face to face components supported by more extensive and
better laid out and designed on-line materials supplied through Moodle. With the arrival of the new
Learning and Teaching Academy now is a good time to redefine what we mean by innovation in
learning and teaching.
