YCLE DIARY
YCLE DIARY 09
EMERGENCY
We made it. Six days, 435 miles, and here we
are in Kirkwall. There were moments I wasn't
sure we'd reach the end, but standing here in
Katie's hometown feels surreal. We're both
delighted, and to top it all off, we've raised over
£6,700 for SCIAF's emergency appeal.
The suffering in the Middle East is
unimaginable. The money we raised will help
provide food, water, emergency healthcare,
and support through SCIAF's partners like
Caritas Jerusalem.
Post-Cycle Reflections
This has been one of the toughest yet most
rewarding experiences of my life. The sense
of achievement is incredible, but more
importantly, it's knowing that we've made
a real difference for people in Gaza. Allan,
Katie, Abbie, and Hector - I couldn't have
done it without them.
As for future challenges? I'm not sure I'll
be jumping on a bike for 435 miles anytime
soon, but never say never!
Over the next couple of days the
route was very hilly! We reached the
highest point on the Scottish Cycle
Network today too - the Drumochter
Pass! The cycle route moved more
from separated cycle routes to country
roads and felt much safer than cycling
around some of the streets in Glasgow!
Today's ride from Dingwall to Bettyhill
was pure magic. We couldn't have asked
for better weather. I think this might
be the most beautiful part of Scotland
I've ever cycled through. Hardly any
cars, just endless miles of open road
and breathtaking views of the Dornoch
Firth. The beauty of the landscape
really took the edge off the exhaustion.
Katie and I joked that this leg of the
journey might just convince us to sign
up for another challenge…
