Staff were paired up to undertake the work, and over the 2 month period there
developed a healthy competitive approach amongst the teams to see who could
produce the most visors each day. During the early stages and throughout the project
there was design input from CoGC staff to safeguard quality standards and increase
production.
3 How
The process involved working with plastic suppliers and local distribution companies to
deliver the raw sheet materials and then pick-up the freshly cut visors from the
college's City campus. This involved detailed timing and planning, mindful of
restrictions.
Each team worked on a rota from 9am 4-pm producing the frames which were taken
to the main hub at Kelvinside Innovation School where they were cleaned and boxed
ready for distribution to different hospitals and other frontline services ready to be
picked up or delivered.
4 Results achieved
Working with others, including the Kelvinside Academy, Glasgow School of Art, and
the wider partner schools' network, the campaign produced and delivered more than
12,000 custom-built visors to hospitals, surgeries, pharmacies and care homes across
Scotland.
City of Glasgow College played its part alongside a netowk of organisations including,
The Innovation School at Kelvinside Academy, SWG3, Badaboom, Clydeside
Distillery, Hydro-C, Intelligent Façade Engineering, Glasgow School of Art, NHS
Scotland, Morrison Construction Loft Office, Urban Office Architects, Peter Drummond
Architects, Larbert High School, Caldervale High, and City of Glasgow College.
The breadth of the partnership was further enhanced by the contribution from Glasgow
arts and music venue SWG3, who funded a campaign to support production of the
equipment. In total over over £75,000 was raised which went directly into producing
the laser-cut visors for NHS workers, carers and key workers across Scotland.
