Theme Vise-up: Building customised visors for Glasgow's
public sector in response to the pandemic
Owner Eddie Carr, Associate Dean, Built Environment
Date February 2022
1 Background
The VISE UP CAMPAIGN
As part of the response to the critical shortages for PPE at the start of the Pandemic a
request was made of local businesses and education centres to help make and deliver
visors to frontline staff as quickly as humanly possible.
In discussion with our external industry stakeholders involved with the Kelvinside
Innovation hub it was decided to utilise the college's three cutting lasers to help
produce visors and for the College to help support the wider design, distribution,
manufacturing, fundraising and promotion effort.
2 What we did
The first stage involved set up and preparation for production, to make this happen
was a real team effort with support from Estates, FES and the colleges IT team.
Due to the current situation and strict guidelines access was limited to only 2 members
of staff at a time.
A call for volunteers was put out to staff, which generated a great response, a rota of
approx. 20 staff was set up, involving staff from across several subject areas, some
had little or no experience of the laser cutting process.
