engagement with external stakeholders has had on student experience, increasing
added value for our learners.
Firstly, in 2019 the F&C Investment Trust Prize was launched by the F&C Investment
Trust in partnership with City of Glasgow College. This was to mark the Trust's 150th
anniversary year. The competition is designed to enable learners to demonstrate
financial understanding and to use creativity and innovation to find solutions to close
the UK's financial knowledge gap. The prize-winner receives a package which
includes networking opportunities, guidance, CV building tips, mock interview training
as well as a laptop and monies for their faculty to invest in research. The competition
is open to university students across the UK, as well as all students who attend City of
Glasgow College. Participation is not limited to business and finance students. This
provides an opportunity for skills development.
Secondly, the College Development Network recognises an individual student through
awarding the 'Student of the Year Award'. This award is presented to a student who
has made significant impact on others within their college and/or in their community.
This can be evidenced through the effective development of an idea into a successful
venture. The award recognises high levels of commitment, determination and hard
work. It helps provide positive role models to learners across the sector, highlighting
what can be achieved. College staff teams are instrumental in identifying learners
worthy of the award and progressing the applications for recognition of achievement,
very often in challenging circumstances.
3. How
The Legal Services team provide and support all students to engage in many
extracurricular activities and engagement with external stakeholders. This includes
participation and opportunity for all HND Legal Services students to participate in the
F&C Investment Trust Prize competition. The team encourage and motivate
students to participate in the competition through promotion of the process, supporting
and encouraging learners whilst highlighting that further skills development is highly
desirable and invaluable. However, it is the students who decide whether to
participate. The students make the decision to enter and progress. There is a
significant amount of work undertaken. The staff team plays an important and
invaluable role in highlighting the value in entering the competition and the skills which
students will develop in the process.
City of Glasgow College staff teams work effectively to engage with students on an
individual basis as well as in groups. In this way they identify key strengths of
individual learners, recognising challenges faced and how these are overcome with
positive outcomes, resulting in course achievement and progression to further study
and/or employment. The Legal Services staff team has identified individual students
worthy of the College Development Network 'Student of the Year Award' through
excellent teamworking and strong focus on student experience.
