Maritime Industry
Maritime transport plays a key role in the global transport and logistics network and is the backbone of international
trade and the global economy, with around 80% of the volume of international trade in goods carried by sea.
The offshore oil and gas and renewable energy sub-sectors are dynamic and expanding fi elds. The oceans provide valuable
natural resources as well as leisure opportunities in the extensive cruise industry.
The maritime industry supports all of these activities and includes the fi elds of ship design, building and repair, ship
operation and management, logistics and supply as well as many other allied industries. Training of people involved in all
of the above activities is a key component of the maritime industry.
